Back in Town

I got back from Europe a month ago. What an awesome trip. As my previous post said, I blogged about the whole thing over at Wordpress. Looking at some of the things I wrote during the 80-day journey, I’m already nostalgic.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure why I still have a Tumblr. I definitely don’t fit the mold of the average blogger here. Most of my entries are over 200 words and I’m not really into memes or posting pictures of food. Not that there’s anything wrong with that - I just don’t think my dinners are usually very photogenic. I considered taking pictures of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ate for dinner tonight (with a snack pack for dessert), but decided not to.

Besides coming to terms with no longer being a grad-turned-vagabond, I’m trying to write more stories these days. I have a lot more free time because I quit my job at Vons before I left. Having so much freedom is both liberating and scary. It’s hard to stay focused with so many cool things to read on the Interwebz - I very much identify with the quote “being a good write is 3 percent talent, the other 97 percent is not being distracted by the Internet.”

Writing

It’s funny, I feel like I’m getting better at journalism, but any other writing I do feels like drivel. I miss writing humor columns and worry that I don’t have that ability anymore. Not that I was insanely gifted or anything before, but it’s a lot harder for me to write anything funny these days. Maybe I’m just really, really out of practice. Guess I should be grateful it’s not my M.O. at the moment.
